About my blog
This blog is a learning activity for me more than anything else. I’ve been in education professionally since 1992, and I love it! I’m very interested in how learners learn, the role of the teacher in the classroom, the content and skills necessary to prepare our kids for the future, implementing current technologies in the classroom, and further educating myself in how to run a school. Moreover, I’ve been working here in China for five years, and I have daily interesting experiences which I enjoy sharing. I hope you enjoy the blog.
The blog title Out of the Cave has a two-fold meaning for me: 1. It’s an allusion to Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” which I studied as a young philosophy major; and 2. It’s a reference to something my dad once told me. He was the first in our family to get a university degree, and he charged me: “I got us out of the cave; now it’s your responsibility to keep us out.” To this point, I’m fulfilling the charge as best I can.
